Alfalfa sprouts are a classic and super easy to grow using our organic sprouting seeds.

A 35g serve of alfalfa sprouts contains 15% of your recommended daily intake of folate (Source: NZ Food Composition database).

The resealable pouch (excluding the zipper) and sticker are home compostable so pop them in your compost bin when you've finished you pack.

Pack size: 100g

How to grow:

  1. Add 2-3 tablespoons of seeds into a 1L jar (use half this if using a 500mL jar).
  2. Half fill the jar with water and leave to soak for ~10mins.
  3. Screw on the sprouting lid and drain the water.
  4. Leave the jar inverted (bench, saucer or dish rack) in a cool place out of direct sunlight.
  5. Gently rinse and drain twice daily.
  6. After ~5 days your sprouts will be ready. Rinse, drain and then place your sprouts into a light place for the day to green up (the sunlight will be used to make chlorophyll). Try to keep out of intense direct sunlight as this may dry out the sprouts.
  7. Empty your sprouts onto a paper towel or tea towel so that excess moisture can be absorbed. Gently lift and shake them to help remove the husks or any unsprouted seeds. You can place a paper towel on top of the sprouts to help absorb more moisture.
  8. Once dried and husks mostly separated, place a paper towel into the bottom of an airtight storage container. Place your seeds inside the container and pop into the fridge.
  9. Your sprouts will be happy in the fridge for at least a week.

How to store:

Press out the air and close your pouch of sprouts using the zipper.

Store in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight.
