Do glass bottles need sterilising?
It depends on how you plan to use them. If you're preserving using the traditional hot fill method (without a water bath or pressure canner), sterilising the bottles is important to ensure food safety. For fermenting, sterilising helps avoid contamination and gives your ferment the best chance of success. But if you're simply storing homemade nut milk, juice, or other drinks for short-term use in the fridge, sterilising isn't usually necessary - just make sure your bottles are thoroughly washed and dried before use.
Can glass bottles be kept in the freezer?
Freezing in glass bottles is generally not recommended. Most bottles have narrow necks or shoulders, which become weak points when the contents expand during freezing - this often leads to cracking or breakage. If you need to freeze liquids, use straight-sided jars made for freezer use.
That said, it's usually fine to place a glass bottle in the freezer briefly to chill the contents - just be sure to remove it before it starts to freeze.

Yes, glass bottles are generally considered a safer and healthier option, especially when compared to plastic. Glass doesn’t leach chemicals, doesn’t retain odours or stains, and is non-reactive - making it ideal for storing drinks, ferments, and homemade foods. Are glass bottles better than plastic?
Yes, in many ways glass bottles are a better choice than plastic. Glass is non-toxic, non-reactive, and won’t leach chemicals into your food or drinks, even with heat or acidic contents. It doesn’t absorb flavours or odours and is easy to clean and reuse.
You can also preserve in glass bottles using methods like hot fill or water bath canning - something that’s not possible or safe with plastic. From an environmental perspective, glass is recyclable, long-lasting, and a more sustainable choice for your home.
What is the best type of glass bottle?
That depends on how you plan to use it. For food storage and preserving, it’s important to choose a bottle that is easy to clean, can be sterilised, and has a suitable opening for the contents you’re working with - for example, a wider neck is helpful for pouring thicker sauces or soups. You’ll also want a bottle with a secure, airtight lid and the ability to replace parts if needed.

How much is shipping?
New Zealand
We offer flat rate shipping of $9 on all orders ($15 for rural delivery locations).
FREE SHIPPING applies to all orders over $200.
Which courier do you use for shipping?
We use a tracked courier service with NZ Post for all deliveries.
Parcels are sent signature-required - the exception being small value orders in courier bags or where requested.
How long will it take to receive my order?
New Zealand
We aim to dispatch all orders within 36 hours.
Delivery within the North Island is overnight/the next working day.
Delivery within the South Island is up to three working days.
If you're located in a remote or rural delivery location, please expect delivery to take a few days longer.
These timeframes are based on guidelines provided by our courier, NZ Post.
Can I return an order?
We offer a hassle-free 30 day returns period so, if it's not right, you can send it back for an exchange or refund.
Please note, you'll need to cover the cost to return the items to us and we do not refund the original freight costs.
Returned items must be undamaged and in original packaging. For health reasons, rubber seals for preserving jars and paper straws are excluded from returns.
